The Low Cost Festival which starts in Benidorm today 22nd of July has impressive figures.  The figures are huge, except for the price of the entrance tickets.  Between 30 and 45 € was paid by the approx 23.000 people coming to the city to see more that 40 live acts.  The festival is now one of the five most important music festivals in the country.  Something that Low Cost has achieved after only two years and which is celebrated in the L’Aiguëra Park in the centre of Benidorm.

There are three stages erected in the park, the largest being in the Bull ring which has been renamed as Budweiser, with a capacity to hold 10.000 people.  The other two stages the XTI and Jack Daniels have been erected in the auditorium Julio Iglesias and the Amphitheatre Oscar Espla both of which are also in the L’Aiguëra Park.  The three areas are all connected by the main path inside the park which runs from the north of the park to the South.

The first to arrive, attended the opening ceremony, which saw performances from Second, L.A and La Habitacion Roja along with the D.J Angél Idiota.

This was just a taste of what was to come and tested the 100.000 watts of light and the 47.000 watts of sound from the XTI stage.  Measuring 18 metres wide and 12 deep it will be the scenery for one of the main attraction of this years Low Cost Festival, the mythical band Los Planetas.

With more than three times the watts of the XTI stage, 340.000 to be precise is the Budweiser scenery, 18 metres wide and 15 metres deep with 40.000 sound changes.  Walking the boards of this stage during the two day festival will be Placebo, Editors, Vive Le Fête and Love of Lesbian among others.

The Jack Daniels scenery boasted 80.000 watts of lighting and 24.000 of sound and the performing bands included Vinila and the Lucky Dados, Niños Tokio Sex Destruction and Jessie Evans.editors low cost festival

Apart from the three stage areas there were three bars provided, hundreds of toilets, three rest areas and three areas serving food with six picnic areas, not to mention the VIP area.  Entrance to the festival was via two entrances one in between the Jack Daniel and XTI stages and the other by the Budweiser scenery.

Another of the attractions of the Festival was the Record Fair, located in the Square “Sus Majestades los Reyes de España”, by the Town hall, which also had live music supplied by La Furgo.  During the two days of the Festival, band members signed cds in the marquee in the square and people could purchase cds of all the bands performing.

Hundreds of security guards assured the safety inside the park from 18:00 hours when the doors opened until approx. 05:00 hours in the morning, when those attending left for the various bars and discotheques in the area.
