benidorm carnival

It’s carnival time again! A time for celebration, from darkness to light, from winter to spring The streets of Benidorm fill with the colourful costumes of children and adults alike as they celebrate this annual event.

This year the popular Children’s Fancy Dress parade will take place on the 6th of February at 11:00. The Parade will take the following route from the Calle Escuelas , down the Calle Ruzafa and the Calle Herreriás and conclude in the Plaza de SSMM Reyes de España.

The adults take to the streets in the evening with their fancy dress parade which will start at 21:30 from the Calle Venus and will travel down the Calle Ruzafa ending at the Plaza SSMM Reyes de España.

The celebrated “burial of the sardine” will take place on the 9th of February with the funeral parade starting at 21:30 from the Plaza Mayor.

The burial of the sardine symbolizes the end of the carnival. A caricature of a sardine is paraded through the streets, to the Parque de Elche, in its coffin with all the participants dressed in mourning.

The burial symbolizes the burial of the “past” and a new future.   The sardine is then cremated on the beach by the Parque de Elche and a Firework Display marks the end of the celebrations, until next year.
