26 YEARS OF BENIDORM RUGBY SEVENS.

Three Day Sevens Tournament for International Sides, Senior & Junior Clubs (men and women).  A spectacular event for players and spectators alike 3 days of fun, sun and rugby . Don’t miss out!  

Every year in May,  Villajoyosa hosts thr Annual International Rugby Seven a Side Tournament, in the Villlajoyosa Rugby Stadium.

This year the event will be held on the 25th , 26th and 27th of May 2012.

The Sevens caters for all levels of senior seven a side rugby,  divided into three sections (National Sides - Invitational sides, Mens and Women, Club sides

This thriving event is supported by Villajoyosa Council, Patronato Turismo Costa Blanca and Benidorm Council.

International Selections:  Spain, Moldavia, Georgia, Rumania, Maroco, Tunisa, Welsh Wizards, Spanish Barbarians, 

Womens Selections, Ireland, Rusia, Kakakistan, Tunisia, Portugal and Spain

Clubs  Scottish Hawick, Brampton, Wolf Sevens, Cau Valencia, Elche, La Vila

As with other years television coverage by TV, Canal Plus, Sportmania + TVE Telededeporte and Canal 9-Punt 2. Most of the Sunday final games will be show

Friday games start at 4.00 pm Saturday games Clubs at 10.00 am Selections at 4.00 pm until 8.00 pm. 

Sunday games wil start at 10.00 am until 8.00 pm. Finals will start at 5.00 pm.

Free Bus Transfers for supporters from Benidorm Yorkshire Pride Bar, Calle Gerona, Saturday and Sunday at 1.00 pmHotel Venus, Sunday at 1.00 pm.

The first ever BENIDORM SEVENS was played in 1987 at Villajoyosa RFC.  6 British teams and 4 spanish participated The first winner was GALA YM (SCOTLAND).  From its inaugural year in 1987 the tournament gained a reputation amongst  Britain's junior Clubs. Over recent seasons there have been more frequent appearances by first class sides.

In 1992. Olympic year in Spain. The tournament devised three levels of competition: International. First Class Clubs and Junior Clubs. 12 National teams compete for the International Cup. FIJI beat SAMOA in a electric final (16-15) last year. .  From 1996 the tournament was played at the Benidorm Municipal Stadium.  The BENIDORM 7´S is included in the European Sevens circuit, and is known  throught the Rugby World as a National Club and has competed with other sides from  all of the continents.   In its short history the Benidorm Sevens has become the most important Tournament  in Spain as was recognised by the offcial programme for the Rugby Sevens World Cup in 1993 and 1997.
