Brutus11

There’s a new reason to visit Terra Natura Benidorm – and he’s already becoming a star!

Brutus, the adorable Indian rhinoceros calf born at Terra Natura Benidorm in July, is thriving and beginning to explore his surroundings alongside his devoted mother, Shiwa.

Now weighing around 60kg, compared with approximately 45kg at birth, Brutus is becoming increasingly curious and confident. One of his favourite discoveries is the water pool and muddy areas of his enclosure, where he can be seen splashing, playing and covering himself in mud. This natural behaviour helps rhinos keep cool and protects their skin from insects.

Brutus is also beginning to take his first steps towards exploring the outdoor meadow. Keepers have started giving Shiwa and her calf voluntary access to the area, allowing them to come and go at their own pace. For now, the pair are understandably cautious, with Shiwa keeping a close and protective eye on her young calf.

The bond between mother and son remains incredibly strong. Brutus continues to feed on Shiwa’s nutrient-rich milk while developing the strength, coordination and confidence he needs as he grows.

His arrival is particularly significant for Terra Natura Benidorm, as Brutus is the third Indian rhinoceros calf to be born at the park, highlighting its important role in conservation and international breeding programmes for this threatened species.

See Brutus as he grows

For families, wildlife enthusiasts and animal lovers, there has never been a better time to visit Terra Natura Benidorm. The park is home to more than 150 species, many of which are vulnerable or endangered.

And with little Brutus now beginning to venture outside, visitors could have the chance to watch one of the park’s youngest residents discover the world for the very first time.

Book your tickets to Terra Natura Benidorm and come and meet Brutus, Shiwa and an incredible collection of wildlife.
